Development
Shenmue Online was to be a MMORPG for PC, based in the world of Shenmue II with releases for Korea and China confirmed at the time of announcement in 2004.However, the game met with development problems and false starts, even switching developers from JCE to another company, T2CN, in 2005. Despite these problems, the game seemed to be progressing and was shown at the 2006 ChinaJoy Expo. However, things went quiet after this and despite being in the line-up for the 2007 ChinaJoy Expo it was never shown. No news has been made of the progress or situation with the game, which has led many to believe the game is on hiatus or perhaps cancelled.
Gameplay
The player takes the role of a unique character and joins one of three clans - either, Shenhua, Xiuying or Wuying (Ren) and take tasks and missions from their respective leader. The main characters of Shenmue appear in the game as non-playable characters (NPC) and the game itself is set in the same time as Shenmue II.
